The bulk of my creative work is done in glass--a material with the transparency to let light pass through. I have attempted to show in three dimensions what had only been expressed in two dimensions previously. I want people to experience in my works a dreamlike, mysterious space. In a world of time and space in which time is shut in, I wanted to produce the kind of depiction shown in the Tateyama mandala. The mandala reflects the state of mind of the viewer, and might be viewed as a different world, depending who is looking at it. I want to express a universe that comes into view when one peeks into the telescope of the mind. I want to create pieces that can be devices allowing one to see universes with the inner eye, from the vast to the microscopic. I remain constantly aware that glass is always at the border of light and shadow.
